Holiday temptations are unavoidable—from chocolate gingerbread cookies shaped like wreaths, gingerbread in Christmas stollen, to marzipan that has you nose-deep in butter. Before long, we're ushering in the New Year with a belly full of champagne and oliebollen. But why watch every bite? For me, as a health blogger who's navigated countless diets, the holidays are for ditching restrictions. Sound familiar? They're celebrations for a reason. Forget the shakes, no Weight Watchers for me, Sonja Bakker can take a hike, Atkins is out with Cambridge Diet, and Modifast is yesterday's news. Diets be damned—I'm here to savor every moment. Skip the Wheel of Five, no calorie counts or macro worries. I'll head to Christmas and New Year's dinners guilt-free, with wine, creamy sauces, buttery delights, tender meats, potato and shrimp croquettes, steamed veggies, fresh salads, baguette dips, and ice cream topped with whipped cream. Then, Old & New, we do it all again!
Consciously Irresponsible Eating isn't our usual topic 😉. We typically share tips on cutting sugar or shedding pounds—more responsible health advice 😉. But occasionally, a little indulgence is key, especially during holidays that are stressful enough without dieting. How do you handle it? Planning BOO in December, or sticking to your plan?
Not me. Gingerbread dough is irresistible, even raw (I know it's risky...). So, BOO or not? 😉 Downsides exist, like the January waistline shock after BOO.
