Back-to-School Blues: A Myth for Most French Workers? Qapa.fr Survey Insights

September signals back-to-school season for everyone in France, from students to professionals. We leave summer holidays behind and gear up for work mode. While the transition isn't always exciting, a recent Qapa.fr survey challenges the notion of widespread depression: over half of French people report the first day feels normal or even easy.

On day one, one in two French workers rises earlier than usual. Another 46% are extra enthusiastic, getting up even earlier. Just 4% hold onto holiday vibes, arriving late.

A third (27%) dive straight into tasks, while 29% check emails first. Most (36%) prioritize the essential: coffee with colleagues. The rest (8%) handle mail.

For 52% of workers, the day is routine; 9% find it very easy. Yet 39% deem it very challenging. Asked about emotions, 43% feel indifferent, 36% cite depression, and surprisingly, 21% experience euphoria.

After the day, 61% head home at the usual time, 20% stay later, and 19% leave early.

Stéphanie Delestre, CEO and co-founder of Qapa.fr, notes: "Contrary to popular belief, the French absolutely don't hate the start of the new school year. Our survey results debunk this cliché, showing the first day is viewed as normal without negative connotations."
