Roy Choi: Food Truck Pioneer Who Launched LocoL to Feed Underserved LA Communities in 2017

"Please, let's do something and feed those we collectively are not reaching."

Roy Choi rose to fame as the founder of the modern food truck movement and the culinary force behind Kogi, one of Los Angeles' most iconic chains serving Korean-inspired tacos. As the first food truck owner to earn Food & Wine magazine's "Best New Chefs" accolade, Choi redefined street food with innovative flavors and accessibility.

In 2017, the 47-year-old chef launched LocoL, a healthy fast-food venture dedicated to delivering nutritious meals to underserved Los Angeles neighborhoods. With ambitions to expand nationwide to every U.S. downtown, Choi is committed to making quality food available to all.

Choi's resilience shines through his personal story. In his memoir L.A. Son: My Life, My City, My Food, he candidly recounts overcoming teenage and young adult struggles with alcohol, crack, and gambling addictions. "I'm addicted to feeding people now. This is a good thing."
