According to a YoungCapital survey of 5,500 young people aged 17-35 across seven European countries, eight in ten would promptly shave off a hipster beard if required by a prospective employer. Dutch respondents showed strong adaptability: 79.4% would shave, 71.8% remove piercings, 80% cover tattoos, 69.3% update their clothing style, and 22% even shed pounds—with most willing to do it all for the job. Belgians displayed similar commitment, while French youth were least flexible, with 21% refusing any changes versus the 11% European average.
Dutch young people also embrace contract flexibility, with 57.3% preferring temporary roles at this career stage, though they still highly value permanent positions.
Financial security drives most Europeans' desire for permanent contracts. Country-specific motivations vary: 28% of Germans prioritize family planning, 34% of French focus on homeownership, 16% of Spaniards plan weddings, and notably, 16.2% of Belgians and 21% of Germans see it as a sign of employer appreciation—far higher than in other nations.
