Pay attention! Applying for the childcare allowance has changed

New rules will apply to applying for childcare allowance. From 1 January 2014, the allowance must be applied for within three months after the month in which the childcare started. If you wait longer, you will miss out on childcare allowance.

Childcare allowance is an income-related contribution towards the costs of childcare. The allowance can be applied for retroactively, but something will change. From 1 January 2014, that period has been shortened to three months. This means that an application for the allowance must be received no later than three months after the month in which the childcare started. Example:A child will go to childcare from 20 January 2014. The parent applies for childcare allowance on 15 June 2014. The parent is entitled to childcare allowance from 1 March 2014.

Right to childcare allowance

Parents may be entitled to childcare allowance if they both work or follow an education or integration course at a certified institution. They are also eligible for the allowance if they are in the process of finding work as a jobseeker. A second condition is that their child goes to a registered childcare facility. The amount of childcare allowance you receive as a parent depends on a number of aspects. Such as your income, the number of children that go to childcare and the number of hours for which parents are entitled to childcare. Would you like more information or request a childcare allowance?
