Evernote 8.0 is here. What's new and improved?

Evernote recently made some pretty significant changes to its iOS app. If you've upgraded to version 8.0, when you open it, it almost feels like you're opening a new app. The changes in the user interface, the functionality and the speed of the application are remarkable.

So what exactly has changed?

Navigation Menu

The navigation menu in the app has changed with Notes, Search, New Note, Shortcuts, and Account.

The New Note button (a green plus button) also brings up several options. If you tap it once, Evernote will create a new standard note. By tapping and holding the button, users have the option to choose from three additional formats:Audio, Photo, or Reminder. Work Chat, the ability to instantly communicate with other Evernote users, has been moved under the account tab.

Notes tab

The overwhelming standard green interface has been replaced with a cleaner, default white interface. Your list of notes is now front and center, instead of your list of notebooks.

There are three options for how your note list appears. In all options, you can preview the first few sentences of a note or the cover of a PDF file. You can choose the amount of space the preview image occupies with the option between small, medium (the default option), and large. Tap the menu button to switch between views and to turn off images and preview text if you prefer a simpler look.

Hidden Notebooks

The list of notebooks is now hidden in a dropdown menu at the top of the screen that you can access by tapping All Notes . Tapping the tag button next to the search bar allows you to filter your notes by tag. Here you can quickly switch between notebooks, with recently modified notebooks at the top of the list.

Search

You can now search across all notes using the search bar at the top of the Notes tab. You can also search your entire account from the search tab. This will include the results of your notes, notebooks, and tags.

Tapping the tag button next to the search bar allows you to filter your notes by tag.

And more

Other changes include shortcuts that have their own tab, where you can also easily find recently viewed notes. You can also seamlessly switch between business and personal accounts from the account tab. Evernote iOS users now also have beefed up formatting options in the app, including selecting small, medium, or large text size and changing the text color.
