More than 50% of Dutch women say their career takes precedence over their relationship, according to a Marie Claire survey. While career ambitions are rising among women, boundaries remain: just 5% of women would share a bed with their boss for advancement, compared to 11% of men. Meanwhile, 15% of men view sex with a colleague in a relationship or marriage as acceptable, versus 7% of women. Flirting at work is more common, with nearly 10% of women and 15% of men engaging.
The survey also reveals shifting perceptions: 64% believe women now have more career opportunities, and 51% see equal chances for men and women. Notably, both genders agree that over 50% of women favor career over relationships. Challenges persist, however—48% think motherhood harms career progression, and 25% of men see it as logical that women rarely reach top roles (versus 10% of women).
Looking ahead 25 years, women prioritize travel (42%) and financial success (39%). In relationships, women feel more secure (82%) than men (76%), with men more likely to suspect affairs (16% vs. 9%).
