40% of Dutch Job Seekers Drop Applications Over Complicated Processes, Indeed Finds

Nearly four in ten Dutch job seekers have abandoned an application due to an overly complex procedure. Both men and women report this, though women are slightly more likely (40%) than men (36%). Age differences are more pronounced: 47% of 18-24-year-olds dropped out, compared to 38% of those aged 25-44 and 36% of 45-65-year-olds. These insights come from Indeed's recent research.

When asked about the least enjoyable parts of job hunting, 47% cited writing a motivation letter. Yet, 85% of job seekers view it as valuable—aligning with the 86% of HR managers who require one.

HR leaders value cover letters for assessing communication skills (67%), gaining deeper candidate insights (65%), confirming effort (35%), or as a standard step (24%).
