Employers fostering positive social relationships among female coworkers—especially in male-dominated organizations—see significantly less conflict between women, new research affirms. The study surveyed 145 management-level employees about workplace dynamics at two large U.S. companies, where women made up less than a third of the workforce and under 15% of senior management.
Men and women report difficult coworkers at similar rates. Yet women are more likely than men to identify another woman as challenging. This trend diminishes notably for women with robust social support and friendships from female colleagues.
