Tax season is here: from March 1 to May 1, Dutch residents can file their income tax returns. Women complete the process faster than men on average. Over 1 in 4 women (25.1%) finish within 30 minutes. Nearly 6 in 10 (58.4%) say it wasn't so bad after all. Some even celebrate: 15.7% treat themselves to something nice or fun. These insights come from a recent Belastingdienst survey.
The vast majority of women (82.7%) who file independently appreciate the Tax and Customs Administration's pre-filled data. More than 65% feel confident doing it themselves—except in cases of major life changes like divorce or home purchase, when nearly half (45.3%) feel more hesitant.
While many prefer early evenings for filing, women opt for daytime: almost 4 in 10 (39.1%) find it the best time.
Most women (82.8%) plan to file soon after March 1, and many succeed—though 15.7% wait until the last minute.
