CBS Reports: Number of Working Women in Netherlands Surges Ahead of Men Over Past Decade

CBS brings encouraging news: Over the past decade, the number of working women has grown faster than that of working men.

In the second quarter of this year, the employed female workforce exceeded 3.8 million, up from 3.4 million in 2005. Meanwhile, employed men numbered 4.5 million, compared to 4.4 million ten years ago. Notably, three-quarters of working women are part-time, versus just one-quarter of men.

Last year saw a slight dip, with working women briefly falling below 3.8 million, particularly in care and welfare sectors. However, growth resumed strongly, pushing the figure back above 3.8 million.

Rise in Working Women

The surge is especially evident among women aged 45 to 75. This reflects both a larger population in this age group and more individuals continuing to work later in life, boosting labor participation rates.
