According to recent Tellow research surveying over 1,000 self-employed individuals and salaried employees, full-time freelancers rate their work situation an average of 7.9 out of 10. A third even score it 9 or higher.
Self-employed workers outperform on every measure: 85% are happy with their work (vs. 71%), 83% experience daily pleasure (vs. 74%), and fewer report stress (28% vs. 39%). They're prouder of their work too (86% vs. 73%). Overall, they rate their job situation 7.8, compared to 7.4 for employees.
Strikingly, 81% say it's unlikely they'll return to employment, while 13% of salaried workers are eyeing self-employment.
Despite fewer vacation days, over 55% of self-employed call it a dream job (vs. 32% of employees). A quarter cite passion for their profession, exciting challenges, and superior work-life balance as reasons to go independent.
