52% of Employees Yearn for Their Dream Job: Insights from Schouten & Nelissen Happiness Survey

Workplace happiness reveals a stark reality: more than half of employees (52%) admit their current role isn't their true passion. While 42% report a strong connection to their job, 40% feel their personal aspirations go unmet. These findings come from Schouten & Nelissen's comprehensive happiness survey, based on over 1,100 respondents.

Overall, 64% of participants describe themselves as generally happy at work. Those who proactively align their roles with their skills, interests, and talents report higher satisfaction than their peers. Maintaining a healthy distance from work is equally crucial for achieving balance and fulfillment.

Notably, 1 in 5 respondents struggle to disconnect after hours, hindering relaxation and enjoyment of life outside work. Individuals who avoid work-related worries at home are far happier (70%) compared to those who don't (40%). Similarly, a stable home life supports focus at work, with 69% happiness among those unaffected versus 33% for others distracted by personal matters.
