As a busy mom commuting daily and shuttling three energetic boys to activities, my car was a whirlwind of mess—and the smell to match. Recently, I deep-cleaned it and hung a scented car air freshener, hoping its aroma therapy would work wonders. Little did I know the real impact… or lack thereof.

Day 1:
I was jolted awake far too early by my toddler's joyful "maaahaaamaaaa." Hoping he'd drift back off, I waited—but no luck. I scooped him up quickly to spare the other two.
Envious of his boundless energy (I'm no morning person), I watched my second son leap out of bed at the first cry, eager for the day's adventures. My oldest, thankfully, slept until 7:00, grasping the value of a lie-in.
I fed the older boys breakfast while coaxing my youngest through porridge. His "hide the spoon" game turned a simple meal into a 30-minute saga.
Upstairs chaos ensued: the older two raced to dress, brush teeth, and bicker over stair privileges. My toddler resisted clothes until he spotted the fun, joining the chase until tears flowed from a collision. Half-dressed myself, I grabbed coats, dashed to the car—forgot backpacks and my bag, doubled back—finally slamming the door, sweating.
Then… magic? Everyone inhaled deeply, savoring the fresh car air freshener and spotless interior. Silence fell as the scent hit our brains' emotional centers, shifting moods instantly. "It smells so good!" "Like cocktails!" (Cocktails? News to me.) After drop-offs, I slumped back in, breathing deeply amid traffic. Zen achieved—at least for me.
Day 2: Relaxed Start?
I woke to my alarm, not cries. Everyone slumbered peacefully; I savored news, coffee, and hot tea. The boys rose excited but calm—no cutlery chaos or spills. They dressed cooperatively, packed bags (even mine!), and skipped to the car singing.
Another deep breath of that delightful scent. Post-drop-off, I hummed to work on time, traffic-free. Pure bliss.
If only. Reality: two-thirds hated the scent, sparking arguments. It faded fast 😏. At least the car stayed fresh and tidy briefly.
Next time, different scent ahead…
