Flirting at work? You're far from alone. A Jobbird.com survey finds that one-third of employees have flirted, hooked up, or had a relationship with a colleague. Specifically, 15% have been in a relationship with a coworker, 12% have hooked up or had sex with one, and 8% kept it to flirting.
Mirjam Wiersma, flirt coach and author of two books on business flirting, says it's no surprise. "Intensive collaboration often sparks connections. Romantic communication with business contacts happens," she explains. Wiersma recommends workplace flirting—when done professionally. "Unlike romantic flirting, business flirting enhances productivity. Strong professional relationships drive continuity and new opportunities."
Still, 65% of respondents prefer separating work and personal life.
Wiersma warns against pursuing romance at work: "It risks serious issues, even termination. Business flirting builds charm for easier collaboration and success. Reserve romantic pursuits for outside the office."
