Mastering the Juggle: Balancing Motherhood, Part-Time Tourism Work, and Competitive Water Polo

Ever wonder how to fit it all into your schedule? Sometimes, even I don't have the perfect answer! As a mom navigating motherhood, a part-time job in tourism, and competitive water polo, it's a true balancing act.

A Day in the Life: Artistry in Scheduling

Being a mom means 24/7 availability—no explanation needed. Day, evening, night: it's constant. But my planner holds even more.

Part-Time in Tourism

I work 24 hours a week at a holiday park, often on weekends and holidays. This leaves weekdays free for quality time with my kids, including fun, less-crowded outings. I've been there for years and love it. My employer respects my family and sports commitments, always granting requested days off. It's give-and-take: I step up during peak times or extra shifts, which pays off. Occasionally, my partner and I both work weekends, so the kids stay with grandparents—you know those juggling days! 😊

Competitive Water Polo

I compete in water polo, training twice weekly. Wednesdays at 7 p.m., right after my daughter's swim lesson—I watch through the window while eating dinner (our Wednesday ritual!). Once home, I head straight to training.

Fridays at 9:15 p.m. from September to April feel late, especially after a long week when I'd rather relax on the couch. Kids are asleep, which helps. These sessions are toughest before weekend trips or parties.

Matches are usually Saturday evenings in southern Netherlands (Zeeland, Limburg, or North Brabant)—not always nearby, but manageable. We arrive 30 minutes early. Game times vary: afternoons, evenings, rarely Sundays. Home games are late, post-bedtime, so weekends revolve around sports. My partner’s shifts mean grandparents often babysit or host sleepovers—a win for the kids!

It's busy by choice, but rewarding. With the season ending soon, we're reclaiming Friday and Saturday nights. Totally worth it.
