Looking for a unique, adventurous job that stands out on your resume? Florida's iconic Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is recruiting mermaids for its renowned underwater theater shows. This 400-seat venue has delighted visitors with live mermaid performances for decades, and now they're seeking talented candidates to join the ranks of future Ariels. Here's what you need to know before diving in.
The glamour of swimming in a mermaid tail and seashell top comes with rigorous demands. Applicants must demonstrate excellent physical condition through aptitude tests, including 10 timed laps with and against the current, plus underwater maneuvers like flips. Selected candidates receive comprehensive dive training to master spectacular routines, such as the "Mermaids Ferris Wheel," where performers remove their masks and circle while holding tails. Performances take place in 23°C (73°F) spring water—cooler than typical 28°C (82°F) pools—with an hourly wage of €8.35.
