How to Create Multiple Signatures in Gmail Using Canned Responses: Expert Guide

Your Gmail signature adds a personal touch to every email you send. However, Gmail limits you to just one signature per account. As a seasoned email productivity expert, I've found a clever workaround using Gmail's built-in canned responses feature—no third-party tools required.

How to Use Canned Responses as Signatures in Gmail

First, enable canned responses in your Gmail settings, then apply them like custom signatures. Follow these proven steps:

  1. Click the gear icon > See all settings.
  2. Navigate to the Advanced tab (formerly Labs), and enable Canned responses from the list of features.

  3. Click Save changes at the bottom and return to your inbox.
  4. Open a new message, write and format your desired signature text.
  5. Click the arrow next to Send for More options.
  6. Select Canned responses > New canned response.

  7. Name it uniquely, like "Personal," "Family," or "Company Signature."

To use it, open a new email, go to Canned responses > Insert, and select your saved signature. Note: The subject line will show the response name temporarily. Unlike default signatures, this isn't automatic—you'll insert it manually each time.

For best results, set a default Gmail signature and use canned responses for special occasions. Alternatives like WiseStamp offer automated multiple signatures.
