But once you've made the switch, you may feel a bit lost, especially if you're unfamiliar with the interface and keyboard shortcuts used in OneNote. Fortunately, they're pretty easy to pick up.

Here are the most important and useful shortcuts to know. Please note, however, that these shortcuts are for the desktop version of OneNote and may or may not translate to any other version of OneNote, including the OS X app or the Windows Store app.

• Ctrl + Alt + D: Dock the OneNote window. It allows you to take notes while doing another activity, such as watching a video or browsing the web.
• Ctrl + Alt + L: Lock all password protected sections.
• Ctrl + Shift + N: Clear all formatting from the selected text.
• Ctrl + #: Apply or delete multiple tags.
• Ctrl + Tab: Cycle through sections.
• Ctrl + Page Up: Go to the previous page in the section.
• Ctrl + Page Down: Switch to the next page in the section.
• Shift + F10: Open the context menu for the current note, tab, or object.
• Shift + F7: Look up the thesaurus for the selected word.
• F11: Enter full screen mode.
• Alt + =: Start typing a math equation.
