Study Links Marital Infidelity to Higher Risk of Workplace Misconduct

Individuals who engage in marital infidelity are significantly more likely to exhibit workplace misconduct, reveals a compelling new study. Researchers analyzed records from police officers, financial advisers, white-collar criminals, and senior executives who used Ashley Madison, a site known for facilitating extramarital affairs. The findings show that Ashley Madison users were over twice as likely to engage in professional misbehavior across these groups.

The study examined four groups totaling 11,235 participants. Even after controlling for age, gender, experience, and a wide range of executive and cultural factors—matching misbehaving professionals with similar non-misbehaving individuals—those with a history of misconduct were far more likely to have used the site.

These results highlight a strong correlation between personal and professional behavior, suggesting that addressing sexual misconduct in the workplace could also curb fraudulent activities.
