Google Drive offers powerful collaboration tools beyond simple file storage. As a seasoned Google Workspace user with years of experience managing team projects, I've relied on its ownership transfer feature countless times to hand off documents seamlessly.
Transferring ownership gives someone else full control—including editing, deleting, or managing access—without ongoing sharing dependencies. This works only for native Google files (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drawings) and folders. You cannot transfer ownership of uploaded non-Google files.
To transfer ownership, ensure the recipient is already shared on the file. Then follow these steps:

Warning: This action is irreversible without the new owner's approval. Files can't have co-owners, so the new owner can revoke your access entirely. Double-check before proceeding.
