According to a Heineken study on the Blade beer tap, nearly two-thirds of employees (61%) place high value on informal gatherings like company drinks. These events offer key opportunities for casual interactions with colleagues (77%) and managers (69%). Additionally, 68% believe employers should cover the costs of such occasions.
94% of employees report participating in company drinks at times, yet 33% feel their workplace organizes too few. Drinks are commonly held in the canteen (32%) or at the office itself (28%). Employees often step up to organize them (32%).
Drink Etiquette
Company drinks are ideal for unwinding, but restraint is key. Over a third (32%) cite drunk colleagues as their top frustration. Network thoughtfully, enjoy moderately, and consider alcohol-free options.
More than half (56%) of participants believe nearly everyone should attend. Despite many driving, alcohol-free beer is available at just over half of events, per Heineken executive insights.
Snacks remain a highlight, with warm options like bitterballen leading at 78%, followed by nuts (46%), cheese cubes (42%), and chips (31%). Meanwhile, 12% call for more vegan choices to enhance inclusivity.
