Password application doesn't lock immediately. Sections auto-lock after five minutes of inactivity by default (customizable later).
To lock manually, open the Password Protection pane and click Lock All. This affects all unlocked protected sections.

Locked sections show a password prompt. Click the section or press Enter.

Enter your password in the Enter Password dialog and click OK. All content becomes accessible.

Regularly update passwords for ongoing security. First, unlock the section.
Open the Password Protection pane and click Change Password.

Enter the old password, then the new one twice, and click OK.

Adjust auto-lock timing (default: 5 minutes) or disable it. Access via any section's Password Protection pane > Password Options, or File > Options > Advanced.

Select a time from the Lock password-protected sections after... dropdown. Uncheck to disable. Check Lock... as soon as I move away for instant locking. Enable Enable add-on programs... for integrations.

Click OK. Restart OneNote to apply changes.
Unlock the section, open Password Protection, and click Remove Password.

Confirm with your current password and click OK.
